TaskMan v3.06
(c)1993-96 Pelican Software Inc.
P.O.Box 741072
Houston, Tx. 77274-1072
Taskman is an application that runs on the Psion Series 3a computer.
The basic function of Tm is to facilitate fast switching between
applications. This is done by polling the S3a for a list of all running
applications, or processes. (The two words are used synonymously.) This
list is then put on the screen in a sorted scrolling list format. Using the
up and down arrows you can go to the process you want to switch to. Press
Enter and you will jump to the highlighted application.
(or use the menu for other options.)
The key to making TM work in the most efficient way is to assign it a
hotkey from the system screen using Psion<A>. For example, if you don't
use the Spreadsheet often you can reassign the Spreadsheet icon to TaskMan.
This makes switching applications faster than going to the system screen
to see what apps are open. It was modeled after the Task list in
Windows.
Installation:
Files needed: File size
----------------------------------------
Taskman.opa 28295 bytes
The installation is very simple. Just copy the Taskman.opa file into any
\app directory on your S3a. From the system screen press Psion<I> to
install an application. Find Taskman.opa and press "Enter". That's it.
You're ready to run TaskMan.
The options in TM are very self explanatory. TM also has online
help so if you're not sure how something works press the <Help>
key.
Options:
. Jump to a process Psion<J>, Enter key
. Rename a process Psion-Shift<R>
. Kill a process Psion<K>, Delete key
. Update display manually Psion<U>
. Show Free Memory Psion<f>
. Application Launcher Psion<R>, or space bar
. Dump Bird (set screen size) Psion<D>, or diamond key
. Version Psion<V>
. About Psion<A>
. Exit Psion<X>
. Zoom Psion<Z>
. Calendar Psion<C>, or tab key
Set Preferences: Psion<Q>
. Set refresh rate
. Define <Esc> key
. Application Name on (Left,Right)
. Auto Rename Word files (Yes,No)
The memory bar at the bottom of the screen will show you the percentage
of your Internal memory is already being used.
Auto Renaming Word files:
This new feature lets you auto rename all Word files,(non Opl). This has been
requested for use with the Macro utility from Psion GmbH to make it easier to
identify each *.wrd file. Set this in "Set Preferences". (Psion<Q>)
File list layout:
You can now customize the layout of the process lists that TM creates. TM gives
you two lists. An Application list, and a list of filenames being used by those
applications. In "Set Preferences" you can decide which side the Application name
goes on. The default is to put the App name on the left and the filenames on the
right. If you'de prefer to see the filenames on the left you can switch them.
------------
TaskMan is shareware. To register send $20 to Pelican Software Inc. and
you will receive all updates.
Compuserve registation:
TaskMan can be registered on Compuserve while online. Go Swreg will
take you to the shareware registration area where you can register
TaskMan. All you need is the TaskMan ID.
TaskMan ID = 1711
New in TM 3.06
. Fixed a small bug for users with default disk other than Internal.
New in TM 3.05
. TaskMan won't let you load Runopl.app from the ROM. This causes
a reset.
New in TM 3.02-3.03
. OPA's a now run correctly, prompting you for the correct file to
launch. TM figures out the rest. Also, .App files that are
really OPA's are correctly identified.
. All .APP and .IMG files can be launched, included those that are
file based apps.
. When the launcher needs to get a filename for the user, it brings
up a file dialog, with the directory set to the directory of the
application being launched.
. Register added to the menu as an option.
. Calendar removed for new built-in calendar.
. Application Launcher hotkey - Spacebar
New in TM 3.01
. Fixed Memory guage for 1-2MB S3a's.
. Help file is not a separate file anymore. If you have an earlier
version, you can delete the Tmhelp.opo file.
New in TM 3.0
. Process list can be re-arranged to list App name on left or right
. sorting will always work on whatever text is found on the
left side of the screen. (App name or filename)
. New Help system
. Set Preferences Psion<Q>. Some functions were moved here.
. Added two new functions into set preferences, including
"Application Name on... Left,Right" and "Auto Rename Word
files Yes,No"
. Auto Renaming of Word files for use with the Macro programs.
. Fixed a bug in the first letter jumping.
New in TM 2.1
. Process list is now sorted.
. Run (Launching) is better. Nows saves a list of frequently used
apps for launching. The Run menu has been replaced by this feature.
. Version shows at the top now when you press Psion<V>.
. Calendar added (Tab key)
About running apps...
Taskman will only launch non file based apps. The command line
needs much more info for file based apps. This may be added later.
It's not hard to do but will make the Tm application bigger. Let me
know if you think this is needed. (file based means apps that show
a list of files under their icon on the system screen.)
New in TM 2.0
. Taskman 2.0 will now display the name of the file being used by
a running app next to the application itself. This way you won't
need to rename apps anymore or jump to multiple apps to figure out
which one is the one you really wanted.
. Minor file launching using the Run option. This will work with all
built in apps. Just launch the file and the app will be start for
you. This may not work with file based apps. It does work with some
file based apps. This feature may be enhanced in future versions.
. Any locked application will show up with a lock icon next to it,
showing that it can not be shutdown safely.
. Run menu will be a Plug-In. (not yet available.)
. Zooming allows a smaller font now.
Thanks to Wolfgang Shirmer for writing the new feature in Taskman 1.2
**********************************************************************
New in TM 1.2
. Press the first key of the process you want to jump to and the
list will scroll to that item. If there is more than one process
with the same first letter, pressing that letter will jump between
all occurances.
For example, if you have three Word files on the task list, you can
jump between them on the list by just pressing the <w> key.
